Gilbert Belnap Family Monument Rededication Announcement
May 26, 2017 10:41 am Leave your thoughtsThe Gilbert Belnap Family Monument and Family Burial Plot in the Ogden City Cemetery will be rededicated on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. A special memorial service will be held at the family plot, located on the east side of 1st Avenue in the far northwest corner of the cemetery. All descendants (including spouses) of Gilbert Belnap are invited! The memorial service will include brief remarks, recognition of the 11 family members buried there, and a dedicatory prayer of the graves and restored family monument. A cemetery walking tour immediately following the service will make stops at other family plots of Gilbert’s children, namely, Gilbert Rosel, Joseph, Hyrum, Vinson K., and Oliver. The 11 family members buried in the Gilbert Belnap Family Plot include: Abigail Mead McBride (1770-1854)–one of the oldest persons to make the Pioneer trek to Utah in 1847 and shared grandmother of Gilbert’s wives Adaline Knight and Henrietta McBride; Gilbert Belnap (1821-1899)–family patriarch; Adaline Knight (1831-1919)–wife of Gilbert; Henrietta McBride (1821-1899)–wife of Gilbert; Martha McBride Knight (Smith Kimball) (1805-1901)–Adaline’s mother and Henrietta’s aunt who was an original founding member of the LDS Relief Society; Volney Belnap (1862-1862)–infant son of Gilbert and Adaline who lived only 1 month; Annetta McBride (1851-1852)–infant daughter of Henrietta’s; and four infant grandsons of Gilbert (born between 1870 and 1882). The original sandstone base of the family monument, which had weathered badly, was replaced last fall by the Belnap Family Organization with a new solid granite base carved to resemble the original stone hash lines, with the words “Gilbert Belnap Family” added in black lettering. Come honor your Pioneer ancestors on July 22 by attending the rededication and memorial service!
