The Belnap Family Organization is planning to honor American Revolutionary War veteran Jesse Belnap (1760-1854) and his wife Eunice Hall (1762-1849) next year in connection with the semiquincentennial (250th) anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by unveiling a monument in their honor at their burial site.  You are invited to attend a special dedication and memorial service at Phillips Cemetery in North East, Erie County, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Jesse Belnap enlisted in the Continental Army at Hebron, Connecticut, in August 1777 shortly before his 17th birthday as an “artificer” (i.e., blacksmith) and served three years, principally at the strategic site of West Point, known as “America’s Gibraltar.”  Jesse’s military service included helping construct the Great Chain that was stretched across the Hudson River to stop the British in dividing the Colonies.
The original headstones of Jesse and Eunice in Phillips Cemetery are now nearly illegible.  The cemetery has granted permission to the Belnap Family Organization to install a new monument honoring them, their children, and Jesse’s military service.  At roughly five feet tall, the monument will share a design similar to the John McBride Belnap Monument dedicated in 1997 in Ashland, Nebraska.
We have already received funds totaling more than $8,000 for this special project.  Our goal is $15,000. Any amount, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged. Donations may be made by check to Belnap Family Organization, c/o 1592 Oakcrest Drive, Ogden, Utah 84403, or by Venmo at @belnapfamilyorganization.  All donations are tax-deductible.
Please make plans now to attend next year’s monument dedication!  More details to follow!
